$80 to send a Ugandan child to school for a year...

So I went to Uganda. Specifically, Gulu Uganda. Until recently, northern Uganda was the site of brutal massacres by the Lord's Resistance Army, a ragtag group of mostly conscripted child soldiers with no clear agenda, which has waged terror for more than two decades on wide swaths of Uganda, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Since the LRA's retreat from the area in 2005, infrastructure and economy have started to reawaken, and children are now attending schools in safety. However, many families cannot afford to send their children to school. Half of Uganda's population lives below the international poverty line of $1.25/day. |

The cost of sending a child to school is only
EIGHTY DOLLARS PER YEAR.
But it's not too late!! The friend I visited in Gulu is still stationed there for a few more months, and is still overseeing the funds we already raised. I would be happy to report to him that we had raised another $2,000 before the end of his Uganda posting. One hundred percent of your donation will go towards putting a child in school. There is zero overhead cost. The money I raise is NOT filtered through a government agency, NGO or charity. It goes directly to the schools via my friend John. He is an old friend from my days in Washington DC whom I trust implicitly. Finally, the old adage is true: No amount is too small. Twenty dollars (the cost of two drinks in Los Angeles or two movie tickets in Cleveland) pays for half a semester of primary school. Ten bucks pays for a month of school.
